The United Nations Procurement Promotion and Docking Fair will be held in Hall I+II of Tianfu Banquet Hall in Chengdu Qinhuang Holiday Hotel from 9:00 am to 16:00 p.m. on September 19, 2019?. The docking fair will see participation of the United Nations Project Services Agency and the United Nations Procurement Division that will introduce the United Nations procurement catalogue, the main procurement of goods and services, and hold a one-on-one question-answer session on how to register for the United Nations supplier pool through relevant platforms. The conference intends to hold three special sessions on trade in services, electronics and medical treatment, with emphasis on inviting service trade suppliers, electrical and electronic suppliers and medical (pharmaceutical and equipment) suppliers to participate.

The United Nations is the largest international organization in the world. Its development assistance system provides massive technical assistance to developing countries and regions in order to promote sustainable economic and social development. To provide technical assistance, specialized agencies of the United Nations carry out a large number of procurement activities globally every year and the amount of procurement is increasing every year. In 2018, the United Nations purchased about US$18.8 billion globally. In addition, most UN member states also use the list of registered suppliers when making government purchases. According to a rough estimate, the resulting trade opportunities amount to tens of billions of US dollars.

Despite such a huge market, the share of Chinese enterprises in the United Nations procurement has been low, hovering around 1-2% for a long time, which is inconsistent with China’s economic strength and international status. The reason why Chinese enterprises have stayed away is due to lack of information on the United Nations procurement agencies, unfamiliarity with the United Nations procurement procedures, language barriers, unfamiliarity with procurement rules, and low degree of specialization in bidding. Therefore, a large number of Chinese products and services can only enter the United Nations procurement system through third parties, which not only reduces the profits of enterprises, but also deprives them of the opportunity to participate in international competition and face the international market directly. The United Nations is the world's largest platform for economic and technological exchanges and wields high authority. Chinese enterprises should implement a social strategy and participate in international competitions, which can be major interactive platforms.

In order to reverse the current disadvantage and encourage Chinese enterprises to participate in United Nations procurement, the Ministry of Commerce formally established the China United Nations Procurement Promotion Association in July 2006 with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. As the sole coordinating body of the United Nations procurement in China, under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce, the United Nations Procurement Promotion Association of China has since its establishment strictly followed the principle of “utilizing the global network of the United Nations, opening up diversified international markets, and strengthening the economic and technological cooperation between Chinese enterprises and other countries in the world, especially developing countries.” First, through its own efforts and in-depth cooperation with government departments at all levels, United Nations agencies and relevant enterprises and institutions, it has built a platform for trade between member enterprises and United Nations agencies, and has acted as a bridge between government and United Nations agencies and enterprises. We hope that through our efforts and assistance, more domestic enterprises will successfully enter the United Nations market and hop on to the international market.
